Rocky Point Creamery, a beloved local dairy producer in Frederick County, has been awarded $78,780 from the Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center’s (NE-DBIC) recent Dairy Farm Improvement & Modernization grant cycle.
The NE-DBIC grant supports dairy farms across the Northeast in making strategic improvements to enhance long-term viability, climate resilience, animal welfare, milk quality, and working conditions. In this highly competitive May 2025 round, 16 farms across eight states received a combined total of $1.03 million in funding.
Rocky Point Creamery will use the grant to install upgraded mattresses in its freestall barn—an investment aimed at improving cow comfort to support herd health and milk production. This effort reflects the farm’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare and longevity of the farm.
This award also shines a spotlight on Frederick County’s vital role in the region’s agricultural economy. As farms like Rocky Point invest in future-ready infrastructure, they help ensure the continued success of local food production while modeling best practices in farm management.
The NE-DBIC program is expected to reopen for new applications in fall 2025, offering more opportunities for dairy farms across the region to modernize and thrive.
Rocky Point Creamery’s efforts exemplify how Frederick County farms continue to lead with care, innovation, and commitment to quality. Their strong focus on community engagement—through educational tours, on-farm experiences, and their popular ice cream shop—helps showcase the importance of the dairy industry to the broader public.
