Discover Frederick County Agriculture

Agriculture is a proud part of Frederick County’s history with 664 square miles of rolling mountains, flat river valleys, streams and bright green pastures. Those who settled here were drawn by the rich soils of the farmlands and the proximity to towns where goods were a necessity. Although some of the past has disappeared, farming continues to play a vital role in our local economy and the same quality of life and atmosphere still draws people here today.

Frederick County is the largest agricultural county in the state of Maryland, leading the number of farms and farmland acres. There are over 1,300 farms in the county, 188,576 acres dedicated to farming and more than 65 percent of the land zoned for agriculture.

Many of our farms invite you to see the best of what agriculture has to offer right here in Frederick County.
