Flower farms are blooming
Frederick County’s floriculture, or flower farming, industry is blooming with varieties such as sunflowers, dahlias, ranunculus, gladiolus, zinnias, marigolds, cockscombs, snap dragons, sweat peas, and more. While some of these farms will allow you to pick your own flowers, others provide the floral designs used in restaurants, weddings, birthdays, showers and other events. Farm-to-vase bouquets and potted plants are also available for purchase.
Did you know that most flowers purchased in the United States are grown overseas? Purchasing local flowers is good for the environment and good for the local economy. “It is another way to support local agriculture. I think it is something that people don’t think of every day. It is an easy way that we can pretty up our town and our restaurants,” says Katie Stevens, Associate Director of Agriculture Business Development.
