Q: How long have you been working with Frederick County?
A: 9.5 Years
Q: What is your role in the Office of Agriculture?
A: My role is centered around supporting and strengthening our local agricultural community. Agriculture is at the heart of Frederick County, where nearly 57% of the land is dedicated to farming, and my mission is to ensure this vital industry continues to thrive for generations to come.
I work closely with farmers, organizations, and local, state and federal government agencies to address challenges and create opportunities that drive innovation, economic growth, and sustainability. From managing programs like the Agricultural Strategic Plan and the How to Start a Winery, Brewery, Distillery guide to advocating for policies that protect farmland and support farm transitions, my role requires a blend of strategic planning, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Q: What do you like most about working in the Office of Ag?
A: Having grown up in the agricultural industry, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges farmers face and the dedication it takes to succeed. What I enjoy most about my role is engaging directly with farmers—whether it’s helping them navigate complex regulations, finding resources to grow their operations, or connecting them with markets to showcase their products.
I’m also passionate about building bridges between urban and rural communities. Through initiatives that foster understanding and appreciation for agriculture’s essential role in our economy and daily lives, I get to highlight the incredible contributions of our local farming community.
Every day brings new challenges and opportunities, but it’s the farmers, their resilience, and their innovation that inspire me. Together, we’re working to ensure that Frederick County remains a leader in agriculture—honoring its rich traditions while embracing the future with bold ideas and solutions.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your agricultural background or passion for the industry.
A: My roots in agriculture run deep. I grew up as a second-generation farmer on my family’s dairy farm, where we milked 100 Holsteins and Milking Shorthorns. Although the farm transitioned away from dairy in 2014, my husband and I continue to raise a few dairy heifers at Daysland Acres, which we proudly show at state and national events.
Growing up, I was an active member of 4-H and the Walkersville FFA Chapter, serving as the Maryland FFA State Vice President. I went on to graduate from Virginia Tech with a degree in Dairy Science and was part of the Virginia Tech Dairy Judging Team that won the National Contest at the World Dairy Expo, where I also placed second individually.
Today, my husband and I enjoy raising our daughters on the farm, instilling in them the same love and respect for agriculture that has shaped my life. Sharing this passion with the next generation is one of my greatest joys.
