Q: How long have you been working with Frederick County?
A. 3 years
Q: What is your role in the Office of Agriculture?
A. As part of the agricultural business development team, I work to support the success and growth of Frederick County’s agricultural businesses by connecting farmers and ag entrepreneurs with the resources they need to thrive. Whether helping new businesses get started, assisting existing farms with expansion, guiding businesses through regulatory processes, or promoting our agricultural sector through initiatives like Homegrown Frederick, my goal is to strengthen the economic viability of Frederick County’s agricultural industry. Managing the Agricultural Innovation Grant program is particularly rewarding because I get to see the direct economic impact of the projects it funds.
Q: What do you like most about working in the Office of Ag?
A: As a former fifth-generation dairy farmer who has experienced the challenges and rewards of managing an agricultural operation in Frederick County, I take great pride in helping local farmers overcome challenges and seize opportunities for growth. Staying connected to the industry I love while making a meaningful impact on the local ag community is incredibly fulfilling. I am proud to have been part of the creation of the Office of Agriculture, further strengthening our county’s commitment to supporting farmers and agricultural businesses. Much like farming, every day is different, bringing new challenges, problem-solving, and learning opportunities. Through Homegrown Frederick, I am honored to be able to share the story of Frederick County agriculture and showcase the dedication and passion that drive our local farmers.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your agricultural background or passion for the industry.
A. I was raised on a dairy farm in Jefferson, and after graduating from Virginia Tech, I returned home to manage our 350-cow herd alongside my family. As a fifth-generation farmer, my passion for the land and our cattle was instilled in me from an early age. Though we sold our herd in 2019 following the passing of my father, my brother transitioned to grain farming, and I am fortunate to continue living on the farm, which is preserved through the Rural Legacy Program.
