RELEASE: Organic Vegetable Farm partners with Lindaben Foundation to distribute hundreds of boxes each month to families living with food insecurities in Prince Georges County

Woodsboro, Maryland, February 4, 2025 — Over 80% of Title 1 elementary school children in Prince George’s County don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Moon Valley Farm is a certifi ed organic farm in Frederick County that is growing food for them and through the Lindaben Foundation and their “Food as Medicine” program, putting it on their tables.

Families simply sign up for this assistance through the Lindaben Foundation. Hundreds of boxes full of local and organic produce are packed each week at the woman-owned farm and families receive fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat and pantry staples. Lindaben strategically coordinates the pick-ups of hundreds of boxes of local and organic produce for the elementary school families.

Annabelle Beavan, founder and President of Lindaben, is passionate about off ering the highest quality foods for families that will not just allow them to survive – but be nourished from this food. Each box comes with bilingual guides with recipes, cooking tips, nutritional information and life-skills to encourage the adoption of healthy habits. Beavan ran a pilot program for a small number of elementary schools in the 2023-2024 school year and this program has exploded its initial success. To date for the 2024-2025 school year, Moon Valley Farm has delivered 3,724 boxes for these families and will continue the deliveries through June.

Moon Valley Farm is a 70 acre farm and food hub, growing produce year-round for a Community-Supported Agriculture program, restaurants and schools in addition to Food as Medicine and Produce Prescription programs. The farm, founded in 2012 by fi rst generation farmer Emma Jagoz, is a valued food supplier to many top restaurants in the region, including Michelin star and James Beard award-winning restaurants in Washington DC, Baltimore, Frederick, MD and Northern VA.

Jagoz says, “ This Food as Medicine partnership with Lindaben Foundation is a breath of fresh air — organizations collaborating to address food insecurity and family nutrition while promoting regional food security through local and organic agriculture. As a mother who started farming to feed high quality food to families in my community – this program truly warms my heart.”
