FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick County Office of Economic Development (FCOED), in partnership with Frederick Magazine, announce the release of the 10th edition of the annual Homegrown Frederick publication.
This year’s milestone edition represents an important and longstanding collaboration between FCOED and Frederick Magazine to provide a professional consumer-focused agricultural publication that would reach a large audience and provide promotion for local farmers at no cost.
“We hope to inspire readers to buy local, embrace the richness of our county’s bounty, and forge a future that honors our shared roots and the resilience of our local agricultural community,” County Executive Jessica Fitzwater said. “Homegrown Frederick is a great way to support Frederick County’s farmers.”
Frederick Magazine Publisher Shawn Dewees said, “Our partnership with the Office of Economic Development in the production of Homegrown Frederick reflects our commitment to the local agricultural community and its tireless work bringing fresh, delicious food to our tables.”
Over the years, the Homegrown Frederick brand has grown in recognition both locally and across the region. It has become a valuable resource for all things agriculture in the county. This year’s publication includes articles that provide a look back on producer stories from the past 10 years, with updates on where they are today, as well as the monumental discovery of the Monocacy Hop, which is genetically unique to Frederick County. The issue also includes a glimpse into the county’s largest agricultural classroom at The Great Frederick Fair and a feature about the County’s Agricultural Innovation Grant program.
Most notably the publication helps residents and consumers find businesses to purchase locally grown products. Among the pages are listings of Frederick County farmers’ markets, farms that offer Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscriptions, orchards, Christmas tree farms, and the county’s booming local craft beverage businesses. The back third of the publication holds a directory of Frederick County agricultural businesses that sell products directly to the consumer.
